Imaging lets your doctor see inside the body without surgery. It does not replace their judgement. It gives them one more piece of information to work with, alongside your history, symptoms and examination.
Your doctor asks for imaging when they want to look at a specific area, check how something is healing, or rule a possibility in or out. The referral names the scan and the body part so our radiographers and sonographers know exactly what to capture.
A radiologist is a medical specialist trained to interpret imaging. After your appointment, a radiologist reviews your images and writes a report describing what they observe. That report goes to the doctor who referred you.
Our team can explain the process, how long it takes and how to prepare. Your results are discussed with you by your referring doctor, who knows your full clinical picture and can put the report in context.

Preparation. It depends on the body part. Abdominal and pelvic scans often need fasting or a full bladder. Musculoskeletal scans usually need nothing at all. Our team will tell you what applies when you book, so please ask.
Book an ultrasoundPreparation. Some CT scans use a contrast agent, which may require fasting beforehand and a recent kidney function blood test. Tell our team about allergies, kidney conditions, diabetes medication, or if you may be pregnant.
Book a CT scanPreparation. Usually none. Wear comfortable clothing without metal fastenings near the area being imaged, and let us know if you may be pregnant.
Ask about X-rayPreparation. Please avoid deodorant, talc or moisturiser on the day, as these can appear on the images. A two-piece outfit makes changing easier. Bring any previous breast imaging if you have it, as comparison is useful.
Book a mammogramPreparation. Early pregnancy scans often need a comfortably full bladder. Later scans usually do not. Timing matters for some scans, so please book as soon as your doctor gives you the referral rather than waiting.
Book a pregnancy scanPreparation. Bring all previous breast imaging and reports. If a biopsy is planned, tell us about blood thinning medication well before the day so our team can advise you. Arrange for someone to drive you home if you would prefer.
Speak to our teamPreparation. Avoid caffeine for a few hours beforehand where possible, as it can raise your heart rate. Wear a top without metal. This scan is not usually covered by Medicare, so please ask our team about the fee when you book.
Ask about this scanPreparation. OPG needs no preparation beyond removing jewellery and dental plates. Guided injections take longer and you may need someone to drive you home. Bring your WorkCover claim number if your imaging relates to a workplace injury.
Talk to our teamOur Pimpama centre does not have an MRI scanner. MRI is available at Radiant Radiology and MRI Centre in Ormeau, about a ten minute drive north along the M1 at 270 Lahrs Road. If your referral is for an MRI, call us and we will book you in at Ormeau.

Your GP, specialist or allied health professional writes a referral naming the scan and the area. Any valid referral is accepted here.
Call us or send a request. We confirm the appointment, tell you exactly how to prepare, and answer any questions about cost before you arrive.
Arrive a few minutes early with your referral and Medicare card. A radiographer or sonographer performs your scan and explains each stage as you go.
A radiologist reviews your images and writes a report, which is sent to your referring doctor. Book a follow-up with them to discuss what it means for you.
Pimpama was Radiant Radiology's first centre, opened in 2018. The group has since grown to four practices across the Gold Coast and Logan, and Pimpama remains our founding site and our dedicated Women's Imaging Centre.

Yes. Diagnostic imaging in Australia is requested by a health professional. A GP, specialist, or in some cases a physiotherapist, chiropractor, osteopath or dentist can refer you, depending on the scan. We accept referrals from any practice, not just clinics in Pimpama.
Bulk billing is available for selected services. What applies depends on the scan, your referral and your Medicare eligibility. Call us before your appointment and our team will tell you exactly what you will pay, so there are no surprises on the day.
It varies by scan. An X-ray is usually ten to twenty minutes. Ultrasound is commonly twenty to forty-five minutes. CT is typically fifteen to forty minutes. Pregnancy and breast diagnostic appointments can run longer. Our team will give you a time to allow when you book.
No. Our Pimpama centre offers ultrasound, CT, X-ray, mammography, pregnancy scans and interventional procedures, but not MRI. MRI is available at Radiant Radiology and MRI Centre in Ormeau, around ten minutes north on the M1. Call us and we can arrange your MRI booking there.
It depends entirely on the scan. Some ultrasounds need fasting or a full bladder. Mammography asks you to skip deodorant and talc on the day. X-rays usually need nothing at all. Tap any service on this page for general guidance, then confirm the specifics with our team when you book.
We are in the Medical Precinct at Pimpama City Shopping Centre, just off Exit 49 on the M1. On-site shopping centre parking is available, with accessible bays close to the medical precinct entrance.

Yes. A support person is welcome in the room for most appointments where it is clinically appropriate, including pregnancy scans. Let us know when you book if you are bringing children, so we can suggest a suitable appointment time.
Tell our team before any scan that uses X-rays, including X-ray, CT and mammography. This is routine and there is no need to feel awkward about it. Your radiographer will check with you again on the day.
